Driveshaft maintenance & Swingarm boots
Why do driveshafts & swingarm boots need maintenance?
R1200
There is no service interval on the driveshaft maintenance in any repair manual and therefore this part of the R Series BMW is neglected. We @ Covenant Motorcycles would like to inform All R Series BMW riders to get the driveshaft attended to ASAP. This problem could set you back financially and is totally unnecessary, thinking that it could have been prevented if it was just maintained properly. From experience we recommend servicing the complete driveshaft at least every 20000kms.
The boots on the swing-arm should also be inspected regularly for any deformation. The boots might look good from the outside but does not seal off properly therefore allowing moisture and dirt to contaminate the driveshaft.
