Hall Sensor Oilheads

Failing hall sensor plates are probably the most common cause of spark & fuel suddenly disappearing on the R1150, R1100 & R850 series BMW’s. It’s a problem that happens without warning and could disappoint you at any time, hopefully close to home.

The function of these sensors is to supply a signal to the Engine Management System when each cylinder reaches Top Dead Center and therefore indicates to ECU when to regulate ignition (spark) and fueling.

The reason why this component fails is because of the poor quality communication cable on the unit that can’t resist the heat of the engine.

The solution to this problem is to replace both hall sensors and the cable with a high heat resistant communication cable as seen on the image below done by Covenant Motorcycles.
